At the end of 2017, the Estonian Electronic Music Society (EES) was founded, with Taavi Kerikmäe, Jaanus Siniväli and Ekke Västrik as founding members, the latter also being the society’s chairman.
The aim of the society is to promote and develop electronic music in Estonia. In order to reach a wider audience, we are organising thematically coherent concerts, workshops, lectures and professional meetings, developing opportunities for international creative residencies, recording and releasing music, and presenting Estonian electronic music abroad. There are also plans to translate and publish texts relating to Estonian electronic music. Cooperation with related organisations, associations and societies in Estonia and abroad is important.
The Society’s first public event was held in December at the MIM club to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the release of the album “Silver Apples of the Moon”, which showed the way for electronic music by the great Morton Subotnick. The concert started with a lecture by Ekke Västrik on his work, followed by a concert by EMTA electronic music ensemble EMA (conducted by Taavi Kerikmäe), with visuals by video artist Tencu.
